Greek immigrants started arriving in Colorado in the late 1800s, drawn west by work on the railroads and in the mines. By the early 1900s, they'd built a life in downtown Denver, opening grocery stores, coffeehouses, and small businesses in a neighborhood that came to be known as Greek Town.

1927: Chapter 145 Is Chartered
1927: Chapter 145 Is Chartered
AHEPA was founded nationally in 1922, in Atlanta, in direct response to the bigotry Greek immigrants faced across the country. Five years later, that reached Denver. On July 22, 1927, Chapter 145 was chartered as part of Silver District 17, giving the city's Greek American community a permanent home for service, scholarship, and civic life.

The chapter didn't wait to get to work. Educational and social programs started almost immediately, and in 1931 members launched an annual children's Christmas party that ran for decades. Denver hosted one of the early District Conventions, putting Colorado at the center of AHEPA activity across the Rocky Mountain states.

Nearly a century of showing up looks like this: scholarships for students heading to college, support for Greek Orthodox parishes and Hellenic organizations across Colorado, and student exchange programs connecting Denver families with schools in Greece. It also looks like golf tournaments, family picnics, athletic events, and fundraisers, the kind of work that pays for the scholarships and keeps the community together while it happens.
